In the 1st leg, Huahine to Raiatea, we decided to take off fast in order to get a jump on the huge flotilla of escort boats. Literally hundreds of power and sailboats and about anything else that floats that the Tahitians can hook up an outboard to, follow each leg of this 3-day event. We knew from experience that we had to avoid this fleet at all costs or risk being either run down or engulfed by the boat wakes, chop and madness of the enthusiastic water born, Hinano indulging, fleet of enthusiastic supporters.
